Fall Sports Summaries Delphi's 7th and 8th grade football teams closed out their seasons with a pair of losses to very strong teams from Battle Ground last Wednesday night at Berto Field. The 8th graders were defeated 36-12, while the Oracle 7th graders lost to the Tomahawks, 22-8. Delphi's Derek Bradshaw was a bright spot for the 8th grade offense, rushing for 123 yards on 12 carries, including a 72-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. The Oracles' (5-3) only other score came on a 32-yard TD pass from Dustin Salyer to Michael Rogers late in the game. Battle Ground (8-1) took control of the game early, securing a 28- 0 lead at the half and finishing with 266 yards on the ground on 24 rushes. Delphi's Cody Garcia rushed for 28 yards on two carries, while Salyer completed 5-of-13 passes for 60 yards, adding an interception on defense. Rogers led all receivers with two catches for 42 yards, while Bradley Roth had a reception for 23. The 7th graders also fell behind early to the Tomahawks (8-0), trailing 22-0 at halftime before Tanner Lynde found the end zone with a 4-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. Matt Brown ran for the 2-point conversion for the game's final score. Brown led Delphi (2-6) with 63 yards rushing on 11 carries and completed 2-of-6 passes for 24 yards. Lynde finished with 40 yards rushing on 10 carries. Austin Jones led the receiving crew with a catch for 20 yards. Lynde had the only other Oracle reception for 4 yards. Both Battle Ground teams will now advance to play for their respective 7th and 8th grade West Central Junior Conference championship to be played later this week. |
