Bruce C. Stokdyk
Bruce C. Stokdyk, 51, of Delphi, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, at 5:50 a.m. at L a f a y e t t e Home Hospital. He had been a patient there for the past eight days, and in ill health since March.
Born Dec. 7, 1954, in Waverly, Iowa, he was the son of Claude "Smokey" and Grace Ohlendorf Stokdyk. He was a 1973 graduate of Peru High School. He received an associate degree in engineering from Purdue University, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana Wesleyan University.
His marriage was to Cynthia S. "Cindy" Bender in Peru, on May 19, 1979, and she survives.
Mr. Stokdyk and his family moved to Delphi from Peru in1987, and he worked for the former Landis & Gyr of Lafayette as a design engineer for five years. From 1992 to the present, he has been employed at Caterpillar in Lafayette, as the manager of Technical Support, CAT Rental Power, Marketing Division.
He was a member of the Delphi United Methodist Church, where he served on the finance committee, and also helped run the audio/pa system of the church.
He was very active with Boy Scout Troop #155 of Delphi, and with the Delphi Community High School Music Boosters Club. He enjoyed Green Bay Packer football, Indiana University basketball, bowling, music, and being a DJ for private functions.
Surviving with his wife are his father of Peru; a son, Christopher Stokdyk (wife: Brooke) of East Lansing, Mich.; two daughters, Susan Grace Stokdyk of Chicago, Ill., and Lauren Nicole Stokdyk, at home; three sisters, Linda Stokdyk of Arizona, Diane Hahn (husband: Mike) of California, and Kathy McAteer (husband: Gene) of Nevada; and a half brother, Terry LeVier of Peru.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Delphi United Methodist Church. The Rev. Todd Ladd will officiate. Burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens at Pittsburg. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Abbott Funeral Home, Delphi, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
