The E911 system for Carroll has not been activated. County residents should not begin dialing 911. It is likely that calls to 911 will go to an operator out-of-state. Eventually the call will be directed to Carroll County Sheriff's Department, but valuable time will be lost. Kay Trent, E911 director, urges the continued use of the seven digit phone numbers for fire, ambulance and police. Notification will be given when 911 becomes available.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Scott of Jefferson Township were named outstanding homesteaders, and Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Craig also of Tippecanoe Township were selected as outstanding young farmers at Saturday evening's Monitcello Chamber of Commerce annual awards dinner. The awards to the two couples were part of the White Carroll Profile in Agriculture program of the chamber.

The practical jokers are on the loose again. Morris Skiles probably brought this one on himself by evading an honest answer to inquires about his intended use of a building he was erecting on the "do it yourself" plan at his home in south Delphi. He told his friends that since Delphi needed factories badly, he was building one.
Saturday, two of his "friends" obliged by installing very crude equipment made from a sawhorse and down spouting for creating a realistic form of "garden mulch".
A number of signs decorated the premises. Saturday and Sunday morning the Skiles' household had numerous telephone calls from persons desiring to place orders.
Finally Skiles offered employment in his factory to a couple of suspects. One offered to work only at union wages, which he was promised, provided he wore his union suit. If their idle hands can be kept busy, maybe other residents of the community will be exempt from their mischief... for a while.

The Delphi to Logansport right-of-way is being secured now. This new state road travels over Main Street in Delphi and under the Wabash and Monon viaducts and along the left side of the Wabash railroad into Logansport over the Cicotte Street Bridge. The road to Logansport from Delphi will be built as soon as it is possible to get to it.
During the past week the committee in charge of the Big Hallowe'en celebration to be held in Flora on Saturday night has completed the list of characters and the prizes to be awarded following the big masked parade. Other plans, such as contracting for cider and pumpkin pie, which will be served free to all who come to the city, have been made.

Galveston has abandoned football.
The town has had a team for years and although the rules have been revised the players consider it too brutal for them and as a result they have laid their pigskins for a more manly game. The Galveston aggregation is a husky bunch and no one would accuse them of being cowards. Each one is an athlete. The list of accidents in the Burlington-Russiaville game at New London recently brought about the decision of the players to quit the game.
