Logansport knocks Carroll out of Sectional

Soccer sectionals began last Thursday and Carroll traveled to Logansport to play the host team in the second game of the night.

Northwestern defeated Twin Lakes in the first game 12-0.

The Cougars' defense was tough and steady in the first 20 minutes of play, keeping the Berries scoreless until 23 minutes into the half. Logansport scored back-to-back shots with 9 and 10 minutes to go and then a final shot to the goal with 22 seconds before the half. The Cougars were able to get off one shot. Adam Tussinger had 8 saves at the goal.

In the final half, the Berries scored 4 minutes into play and then again on a penalty kick with 12 minutes remaining. The Cougars were able to get off 6 more shots, however none of them would score. Logansport won 6-0. Tussinger had 3 saves in the second half.

Northwestern and Logansport squared off Saturday in the championship. Logansport advanced to the regional.

The Cougars end the season with a 6-10 record.

Roosevelt overpowers DCMS gridders

With the lead in the season conference standings at stake, Thursday night at Twin Lakes Roosevelt's 8th graders dominated Delphi with a 21-0 shutout.

The Oracle 7th graders were also defeated by Roosevelt 20-6 in the opener.

Roosevelt (6-0) took control of the 8th grade game from the onset, limiting Delphi to just 39 yards of total offense - only a net of 9 by rushing on 18 carries.

The Oracles completed just 3-of-19 passing attempts, with all three completions and Delphi's only two first downs in the game coming late in the fourth quarter.

Delphi (4-2) was also plagued with four turnovers - three interceptions and a fumble. It was the first time the 8th graders have been held scoreless this season.

Roosevelt parlayed an efficient 162 yards of total offense into three scores and the victory after leading 14-0 at halftime.

Delphi's Tres' White and Blake Price each caught their first pass of the season, for 7 and 10 yards respectively as the Oracles finally moved the offensive chains late in the game.

Shane Hyman had the only other Delphi reception for 13 yards.

The Oracle 7th graders (1-5) were able to move the ball offensively, finishing with 150 yards of total offense, but could not get into the end zone enough to overcome the host Indians.

Tanner Lynde, who scored the Oracles' only touchdown on a 69- yard run, led Delphi in rushing (82 yards, 10 carries) and receiving (47 yards, 2 receptions). He also completed both of his passing attempts to Matt Brown (8 yards) and Austin Jones (6), and forced a fumble on defense.

Brown also completed 2-of-5 passes for 47 yards.

Both Delphi teams return to action Thursday night, hosting Klondike at Berto Field, with the 7th grade game scheduled to start at 5:45 p.m.

DCMS netters win Benton Central Invitational

The Oracle 8th grade A-team swept the Benton Central Invitational on Saturday, defeating Benton Central in two games, Twin Lakes in two games, and Rensselaer in two games. These were teams that had previously beat Delphi once or twice during the season. The team really worked together and stunned the competition with consistent play.

The 8th grade A and B teams will play in their last match today, Wednesday, against Wea Ridge at home.

Oracle defense keeps Cougars at bay

Delphi Junior Varsity football team finished the season on a winning streak with two victories in a row. The Oracles had a big 35-8 win over Carroll and a 14-8 win over Benton Central.

The Oracles got on the board first against Carroll on a two-yard plunge by Braden Atwood. Brandon Delaney kicked the extra point, making the score 7-0. The Cougars came right back and scored on a third and long by throwing a 35-yard touchdown pass. The Cougars then scored the extra point on another pass play for an 8-7 Carroll lead. Late in the second quarter, the Oracles scored on a 15-yard pass to Quinton Pearson from AJ Beckett and Delaney added the extra point, putting the Oracles back up at 14-8.

In the second half, the Oracles got the ball first in the third quarter and went right down and scored on a 31-yard pass from Beckett to Tanner Cripe. Miguel Montero kicked the extra point for a 21-8 lead. The Oracle defense got the ball back in the fourth. Beckett ran Delphi's fourth touchdown in the last quarter. Montero added the extra point. The Oracles scored one more time on a pass from Cripe to Beckett. Delaney added the extra point.

Defensively Cripe and Cory Smith had interceptions for the Oracles. The defense played well and was able to shut the Cougar offense down.

The Oracles ended the season 3-4 on the year.
