Charles J. Combs

Charles J. Combs, 77, of Cutler, died at 1:28 a.m. Oct. 9, 2006, at M i l n e r Community Health Care, Rossville. He had been a resident there for a month.

Born Dec. 29, 1928, in Hopkins, Minn., he was the son of Charles D. and Phoebe Lamphere Combs. He was married on May 28, 1954, in Corinth, Miss., to Catherine J. Stevenson, who survives.

Mr. Combs was retired from Smith Construction Company in Bringhurst where he was employed for 35 years. From 1953 to 1954 he served on the Flora Police Department.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 75 for 54 years.

He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, fishing, hunting, and making people laugh.

Surviving with his wife are three sons, Charles W. Combs of Buffalo, Darrell A. Combs of Mobile, Ala., and Rick L. Combs of Oklahoma; three brothers, Clayton Combs and Floyd Combs, both of Pittsburg, and Harold Combs of Monticello; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
