Flora-Monroe Township

The ninth annual Teen Read Week celebration ends this Saturday. This year's theme is "Get Active at your Library." We are celebrating with hundreds of other libraries, schools and bookstores across the country that are encouraging young adults to read for the fun of it. This year's theme encourages teens to use library resources to lead an active life.

The library has all kinds of Teen Read Week related books including college information, scholarship and grant resources, athlete biographies, public access computers, exercise videos, and much more. The library also has ideas available on how to celebrate teens reading at home. Look for special displays dedicated to young adults and "Get Active at your Library" during Teen Read Week!

The next Saturday Morning Book Discussion Group will critique "Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind" by Ann B. Ross. "Miss Julia" is fast-paced, funny and filled with homespun appeal that offers an interesting take on gender, race, and family in the South. The group will meet Oct. 21. New members are always welcome.

The theme of the next storytime is "Fall Leaves." Storytime is Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m.

Hear stories 24 hours a day on the library's Dial-a-Story phone line, 967-3814.

A special fall break activity is planned for Oct. 26. Steven's Puppets will present "Beauty and the Beast" for preschoolers and elementary age children at 10:30 a.m. The annual presentation of the popular puppeteer is free but attendees must pick up a ticket in advance at the children's circulation desk. Call children's librarian Marcia Sledd for more information.

A cast of 14 community members are currently in rehearsal for "All Is Fair in Love and Lies," Delphi Public Library's annual murder mystery/comedy. The Oct. 29 play will feature the following local thespians: Rob Stone, Emily Stone, Kelly Currie, Grace Currie, Patsy Scott, Marcia Sledd, Brenton Hathaway, Joel Enoch, Noel Pinkard, Joshua Pinkard, Kayla Gill, Audrey Smith, Daniela Green and Sara Daly-Brosman.

In Stitches fiber arts circle will meet on Oct. 23 to share ideas, discuss projects, and to stitch, quilt or sew. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking for an indoor activity for the coming winter. Come and learn to knit a pair of socks or to make a lap quilt. Bring a work in progress or supplies to start one, and a refreshment to share.
