County Chamber

Carroll County Chamber of Commerce board met at the Burlington Town Hall on Sept. 28.

In attendance were Dick Bradshaw, Bret Hanaway, Keith Chandler, Tammy and Bob Dyer, Michelle Pearson, Alan Flora, Lynn Corson, and Michelle Cox.

Bradshaw reminded everyone that businesses can now the join the Chamber for the annual fee and be covered through December 2007, for a total of five quarters.

The selection committee presented a name for the full-time position of Chamber administrative assistant. The board approved the candidate, and the name will be announced after official acceptance of the offer is received.

The annual Chamber meeting will be Oct. 26 at the 4-H Building in Flora. Refreshments will be at 5 p.m. with the business meeting starting at 6. The 2007 board of directors will be voted on. Board members are asked to arrive early to assist in setting up.

Joint efforts between the Chamber and the EDC continue on the nominations for the "Community Appearance Awards."

Chandler reported on activities in progress:

The golf outing has been postponed until spring due to lack of participation and possible bad weather.

The board discussed "member discount cards." Chandler and Rinehart will finalize card quantity, layout, and production details.

A "Business to Business" luncheon will be held Nov. 11 at noon at the Interpretive Center.

The Chamber will continue to keep in contact with Dr. Doggett and P & R to offer any support and demonstrate Chamber interest in their businesses.

The County Council will meet at 8 a.m. on Oct. 29 and will vote on whether to grant the Chamber $35,000 for the second year of operation. Chamber members are encouraged to attend and show support. Chandler and Bradshaw will address the Council on the Chambers's accomplishments and future plans.

The next meeting will be the annual meeting. The November meeting will be on the 30th due to the Thanksgiving holiday the week prior. The place will be announced.

Carroll County Habitat

Carroll County Habitat for Humanity met Oct. 3 at Sharon Baptist Church.

Vice-president Don Reef presided, and Rev. Janet Hildreth led devotions.

The House Blessing ceremony for the 2006 Thrivent Build House has been moved to Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. The public is welcome to attend this event.

Ameeting for a "Carroll County Habitat Harvest Build 2007" will be held Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. at Delphi United Methodist Church. Anyone interested in participating in this build or wanting more information is welcome to attend.

The Radnor United Methodist Church is holding a ham and bean supper Oct. 28 at the Interpretive Center, with the proceeds going toward the 2007 build. The Overtones will also be performing at this function.

There is still work needed to complete the 2006 house. The plumbing work is planned for this week, as well as the grass seeding.

The carpet and linoleum have been purchased and need to be installed. Three Carroll High School students spent time finishing the painting of the interior doors this week.

The next regular meeting will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 7 at Cutler Presbyterian Church. It is open to the public.

Rock Creek EH

Rock Creek Extension Homemakers Club met at the home of Pat Robbins.

An adult version of "Jesus Loves Me" was given by the hostess for devotions.

Roll call was answered by seven members.

"This Land is Your Land" was sung, and "Happy Birthday" was sung to Marjorie Been.

Grace Deel attended International Night. She asked for donations for Make a Difference Day.

The project lesson, "Matters of Life and Death," was given by Hazel Mullin. One suggestion was "Get your finances organized."

For the health and safety lesson, Marjorie Been talked about what to do for nighttime leg cramps - massage muscles, use hot or cold treatment, drink fluids, stretch muscles.

For citizenship, Hazel Mullin asked members about doing good deeds.

For cultural arts, Wiladean Snoeberger read about the origin of Raggedy Ann and Andy at Arcola, Ill.

The next meeting will be at Solomon's Grille.

Delphi Lions Club

Delphi Lions Club met Oct. 4 at the Presbyterian Church. Guest speaker was Indiana's Lions District 25-c Gov. Alyn McConnaha, who spoke about the state's projects including cancer control, speech and hearing, leader dogs and eye banks. A check for $1,700 was presented to McConnaha to support the projects.

The annual fruit sale is underway and will end Nov. 11. To order fruit, contact any Lion. Trash pick-up is scheduled for Oct. 11 at 5 p.m.

The next meeting is Oct. 18 at the Stone Barn at 6:30 p.m.

Double Dozen EH

The Oct. 3 meeting of Double Dozen Extension Homemakers was at the home of Etta Byers.

President Wilma Robeson read the Thought of the Month, and Mrs. Byers gave devotions taken from "Chicken Soup for the Woman's Soul."

The birthdays of Helen Forgey and Virginia Marcellino were recognized, as well as the anniversary of PerriettaAppleton.Aletter received from Mrs. Appleton, who now resides in Franklin, was read.

Items for Make A Difference Day, purchased by Mrs. Byers on behalf of the club, were displayed and will be delivered at the appropriate time.

Arrangements for the annual Christmas dinner were discussed.

The project lesson, "Crock-Pot Cookery," was presented by Helen Forgey and Mary Ellen Johnson, with the entire group enjoying recipes they had prepared.

Susie Dyke was the prize winner.

The nextmeeting will be Nov. 7 with Barbara Dillon as hostess.
