Nellie O. Gilkison

Nellie O. Gilkison, 89, of Delphi, died at 9:07 p.m. Sept. 30, 2006, at Twin Lakes Village, Monticello. She moved from Oregon to Delphi in 1975.

Born May 15, 1917, in Dale, Ind., she was the daughter of James C. and Zeallot Medcalf Willis. Her first marriage was on Oct. 31, 1953, in Vincennes to Edgar L. George, who preceded her in death on April 24, 1970. Her second marriage was on June 22, 1970, in Portland, Ore., to Roland A. Gilkison. He preceded her in death on March 25, 1985.

She was a 1935 graduate of Mackey High School, Mackey, Ind., and had worked for Jack Wroten at Lil' Bit of Country Antique Store in Delphi.

She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, and Delphi Senior Citizens.

Her hobbies were bingo, reading, and corresponding with pen pals and many other people over the years.

Surviving are five stepchildren, Patty Bowman of Bicknell, Ind., Charlotte Roberts of Portland, Ore., Edgar R. George (wife: Shirley) of Lanesville, Ore., Donald Gilkison of Oregon City, Ore., and Barbara J. Hall (husband: Henry) of Rockfield; one sister, Clata Brumley of LaMoille, Ill.; a brother, Arleigh Willis of Logansport; her niece and guardian, Barbara Johns (husband: Daryl) of Delphi; and several other nieces and nephews, and great and greatgreat nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a stepson, James George; a sister, Mayme Hedrick; and three brothers, William Willis, Admir Willis, and an infant brother.

Graveside services were Tuesday at Dale Cemetery. Davidson Funeral Home, Delphi, was in charge of arrangements.
