Cheryl Miller walk is Sept. 30 This year, about 20,000 American women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer. When detected early, before it spreads beyond the ovaries, the five-year survival rate is over 90 percent. But the overwhelming majority of cases, 75 percent, are not detected until the disease has reached an advanced stage, when the survival rate is only 25 percent. That's why early detection and a well-educated public is so necessary. The 4th annual Cheryl Miller 5K Walk for Ovarian Cancer will be held Sept. 30. The walk raises money for Ovar'coming, Indiana's ovarian cancer education and resource organization, and for St. Vincent GYN Oncology research department. Over the past three years, participants have raised over $36,000. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Canal Park in Delphi. Walkers can raise pledges or make a $20 donation when registering. The walk begins at 10 a.m. and finishes at the courthouse with a brief ceremony and balloon release. For more information, contact Norm Miller at (765) 564-4484 or (765) 490-5253. |
