Meetings A meeting of Carroll County Habitat for Humanity was held Sept. 5. Election of officers was held with the following slate being approved: Randy Wherley, president and community relations; Don Reef, vice president; Janet Hildreth, chaplain and church relations; Jim Justice, family selection; Dan Suto, family support; Curt Hillenberg, construction; and Terry Callender, site selection and finance. The group discussed building next year's house. The project might be led by the Methodists. Delphi United Methodist Church pastor, Pastor Todd Ladd, will hold a meeting Sept. 12 with other Methodists, regarding this possibility. It was reported that the current house is progressing nicely. Wherley presented a list of tasks that need to be completed. The house blessing is set for Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. Callender researched the recent Habitat auction held in LaGrange County and discovered that $71,000 was made this year. This included many pieces of furniture and 94 quilts (one of which sold for $1,000). Also, $3,400 was donated from the churches in the area at $1 per member. The next regular meeting is Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. at Sharon Baptist Church. Double Dozen EH Club Double Dozen Extension Homemakers Club met Sept. 7 at the home of Helen Forgey with Elizabeth Downham assisting. Eleven members responded to roll call, telling their first paying job away from home. Devotions were given by Elizabeth Downham, and Wilma Robeson led in singing the Song of the Month. The August birthdays of Elizabeth Downham and Elizabeth Mylet were recognized, as well as the anniversaries of Helen Forgey and Lona Yeakley. The club will assist with the Sept. 19 International Night, and members volunteered for various activities. Health and safety leader Barbara Dillon reported on "How to Survive a Heart Attack" and "Stroke Symptoms." Make-A-Difference Day is Oct. 21, and arrangements were made for participation. A video was shown, "Skin Cancer Awareness." Barbara Dillon won the prize. The next meeting is Oct. 3 with Etta Byers as hostess. |
