Marie J. McGinnis

Marie J. ( S t e p h e n ) McGinnis, 93, formerly of L a f a y e t t e , died at 3:16 a.m. Aug. 29, 2006, at Manor Care of Kokomo.

Born July 21, 1913, in Middleburn, West Virginia, she was the daughter of Samuel O. and Stella M. (Reed) Stephen, She married Howard J. McGinnis in 1939 in West Virginia and he preceded her in death on June 8, 1978.

She had resided in Kokomo for the past six years, having previously resided in Flora and then Lafayette for 37 years.

Mrs. McGinnis worked on the frozen food line at Green Giant in Lafayette and was a house mom for 10 years at Purdue University before retiring.

She was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Lafayette, and the church's XYZs.

She enjoyed sewing, flowers, cooking, and word search puzzles. She loved kids and babysitting.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia A. McKinley (husband: Thomas) of Kokomo and Helen M. Young (husband: Max) of Lafayette; a daughterin law, Jane McGinnis; a brother, Floyd Donald Stephen (wife: Donna) of Follensbee, WV; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, James S. McGinnis, her parents, three brothers, and one sister.

Services were held Saturday at Hippensteel Funeral Home, Lafayette. Interment was at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
