DUV Nat'l Convention

The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War held their National Convention in Harrisburg, Pa., Aug. 10-14.

Esther M. Cook, Indiana past department president, helped with the Memorial Service held during the meeting on Sunday morning after their church service.

Tia and Melanie Cook, along with other DUVs (ages 8-21) in attendance, performed for the Granddaughters Breakfast on Monday morning.

Next year's National Convention will be held in St. Louis, Mo., Aug. 9-13. In 2008, it will be held in Columbus, Ind.

Rock Creek EH

Rock Creek Extension Homemakers Club had a luncheon meeting at Gracie's. Kathy Snoeberger was hostess.

Roll call was answered by seven members.

Devotions on "The List" were given by Kathy Snoeberger.

The song of the month was led by Marjorie Been.

"Happy Birthday" was sung to Kathy Snoeberger and Grace Deel.

For the health and safety lesson, Marjorie Been told how to control odors: Use Borax for nasty smells; to clean drain, use bleach and add boiling water.

For citizenship, Hazel Mullin talked about the time change.

The cultural arts lesson, about the Wabash & Erie Canal, 18281870, was given by Wiladean Snoeberger.

Marjorie Been won the door prize.

The next meeting will be at the home of Pat Robbins.

County Chamber

Carroll County Chamber of Commerce board met Aug. 24. Joe Moss distributed monthly financial activity. He advised that there will be upcoming expenditures like the Polk Directory membership, marketing survey, administrative assistant and Web design.

Keith Chandler reported current membership is at 85. He completed a membership solicitation mailing to approximately 300 more businesses.

The annual meeting will be held Oct. 26 at the 4-H Community Building in Flora. Refreshments will begin at 5 p.m. with business meeting commencing at 6 p.m.

The nominating committee will report next month with proposed slate of officers for election at the annual meeting.

The Web site is expected to be running next week at www.carrollcountychamber.co mThe Chamber Directory will be ready for distribution at the annual meeting.

Next regular meeting will be Sept. 28 at 6:30 p.m. in Burlington.
