Delgado's 5 goals leads Carroll over Delphi

Carroll soccer team defeated Delphi 12-1 last week.

In the first half of play, Antonio Delgado scored 4 goals and Cody Abdon put in 2 for a 6-0 Cougar lead. Adam Tussinger had 6 saves as goalie. In the final half, Delgado and Abdon both scored once more. Others scoring for Carroll were: Kara Overholser, Justin Moffitt, Michael Myer and Adam Tussinger. CJ Grace had 2 saves as goalie and one assist from the goal. Others with assists were Delgado 2, Overholser, Kiel Lester, and Chase Meade, 3 each, and Jerome Hemersbach and Michael Myer.

Delphi and Carroll teams will meet again on Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. on the CHS football field.

Vs. Tri-Central

The Cougars traveled to Tri-Central on Thursday for their first conference game of the season. The team was down 3-0 at the half but never gave up. They came back in the second half and held the Trojans to only one goal. Delgado was able to kick in a goal for a 4-1 final score. Tussinger had 11 saves for the night.

The Cougars will compete Saturday in the Danville Tourney at 10 a.m. They are at home Tuesday against Twin Lakes at 5 p.m. and travel to Caston Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. contest.

Vs. Central Catholic

Carroll was defeated by Central Catholic Monday on their home field. Score at the half and in the end was 2-1. Delgado put the ball in the net, assisted by Arthur Santos. Tussinger had 11 saves. Michael Rogers ran for the two-point conversion to make the 30-0 final.

Delphi used a balanced offensive attack 136 yards rushing and 113 yards passing for 249 of total offense and a stellar defensive effort, holding Carroll to -12 net yards rushing and 64 yards of total offense.

Hawn completed 3-of-4 passes for 67 yards and two TDs, splitting time with Salyer, who also completed three passes for 46 yards.

Wagner led with two receptions for 47 yards and a TD, while Hawn added two catches for 29 yards. In addition to Salyer's TD reception, Roth also had a catch for 17 yards.

The Oracles' balanced rushing attack was led by Salyer's 61 yards on six carries, with Rogers adding 40 yards on 5 rushes and Bradshaw 35 yards on 10 carries. Defensively, Hawn had a forced fumble and Bradshaw recorded a fumble recovery.

The Oracle 7th graders also had an impressive debut as Tanner Lynde scored on a 46-yard TD run in the 2nd quarter to take a lead into the locker room at the half.

In the 3rd quarter, Delphi's dominating defense came up with a score as Stephen Back forced a Carroll fumble, which was recovered by Matt Standifur in the end zone for a touchdown.

Delphi's defense kept the Cougar offense in check the rest of the way for the 14-0 final.

Both Delphi teams return to action on Sept. 7 at Berto Field vs. West Lafayette, with the 7th grade game starting at 5:45 pm.

Carroll's teams play host to Central Catholic on Tuesday night with results too late for the Comet's printing deadline. They will next take the field on Sept. 7 at Cass at 6 p.m., before returning home to face Pioneer Sept. 12, also at 6 p.m.
