Delphi's Oracles held on to the Bacon Bowl title with an easy 346 victory over county-rival Carroll last Friday at Berto Field.
Just like last week, Delphi came out of the locker room red hot, but this time they didn't cool down until a win was assured. By holding the Cougars to no offensive TDs and 101 total yards, the Oracles racked up 372 running yards of their own. The game was over early in the fourth period.
The Cougars started the game as if they were going to be the team going home a winner. With a third down and 16 at their own 10-yard line, Riley Eller completed a pass to Ty Sullivan that gained 40 yards. Deric Finley caught a third and 11 pass from Eller, good for 16 yards, for another first down at the Oracle 33. Two plays later, Delphi's Kory Banes intercepted an Eller pass to stop the Cougar drive. It took Delphi five plays to score a TD to take the lead. Joe Little scored on a one-yard plunge set up by a 36-yard run by Cory Smith.
The Cougars' next possession ended when Matt Lewis returned an interception 78 yards for a 14-0 Delphi lead at the 2:58 mark of the first quarter. After forcing a Carroll punt, the Oracles moved 49 yards in six plays to take a 21-0 lead early in the second period. Lewis and Little accounted for all of the yards with Lewis gaining 25 and Little 24

Delphi's next possession saw Little attempt a swing pass to the left when Ben Bennington of Carroll intercepted the pass. Without breaking stride, Bennington ran untouched 83 yards into the end zone to briefly put Carroll back into the ball game, 21-6. A two-point attempt failed.
It took 4:01 for Delphi to regain the three TD lead. Chase Brummett scored on a 39-yard run for the Oracles to give the home team a 28-6 halftime lead.
Delphi started the second half just like the first, by marching down the field. They had a first down and goal at the Carroll three-yard line. The Carroll defense stiffened and three plays later the Oracles were forced to attempt a 30-yard field goal. Michael Myers's try was just short.

The Oracle defense showed their stuff too, by not letting the Carroll team get any yards, forcing a punt. Ty Sullivan boomed a 57-yard punt on fourth down for Carroll.
Delphi went on a drive that ate up what was left of the third period. The Oracles totally dominated the third. They had the ball for 10:18 to Carroll's 1:42. Delphi ran off 22 plays for 94 yards to the Cougars' 4 plays for 0 yards.
Four plays into the final quarter Michael Myers caught a 33-yard pass from Little to give Delphi an insurmountable lead, 34-6. The extra point attempt by Myers was blocked. Neither team mounted a serious scoring drive for the rest of the game as both coaches used their benches to finish it out.
Eller of Carroll completed 6 of 18 passes with 2 interceptions, good for 92 yards. Little completed 8 of 14 with 1 interception, good for 136 yards and 1 TD
Eller led Carroll with 28 yards rushing while Delphi was led by Brummett with 86. Lewis and Smith chipped in with 63 and 43 yards, respectively. Sullivan, Finley, Nick Flora, Cory Mahan, Andrew Hughes and Ben Bennington each caught one pass for Carroll. Myers caught 5 for Delphi, good for 115 yards and 1 TD. Smith caught 2 and Banes 1.
