Jesse W. Sheagley
Jesse W. Sheagley, 88, of B u r l i n g t o n , died at 2:15 a.m. Aug. 26, 2006, at North Woods Village, Kokomo. Born Feb. 25, 1918, in Carroll County, he was the son of William Penn and Lilly Blanche Bosworth Sheagley. He attended Cutler High School.

He was married on Nov. 10, 1942, to Freda Rice, who died Sept. 5, 1965. He married Jane Fernung on Oct. 2, 1982, and she died Sept. 1, 2001.

Mr. Sheagley was retired from the Cabot Corp. in Kokomo.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served four and a half years in the infantry, from April 10, 1941, to Oct. 3, 1945. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

He was a lifetime member of Burlington American Legion Post 414, and a member of the VFW in Peru.

A lifelong resident of the Burlington community, he attended Faith Church of Christ.

He enjoyed square dancing, hunting, trapping and fishing.

Surviving are one son, Donald E. Sheagley (wife: Sharon) of Burlington; five stepchildren, David Fernung (wife: Sheryl) and Randy Fernung (wife: Debbie), all of Kokomo, Karl Fernung of Indianapolis, Mamie Miller (husband: Dallas) of Spartanburg, S.C., and Judy Allen of Raleigh, N.C.; three brothers, George Sheagley, Wayne Sheagley and Fred Sheagley, all of Kokomo; six grandchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 17 stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A sister, Blanche Warren, preceded him in death.

Services were held Tuesday at Neptune Funeral Home, Burlington. Pastor Steve Cole officiated. Burial was at Ball Hill Cemetery near Cutler with military graveside rites by the Kokomo VFW military team.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
