Dorothy I. Clem
She was born Feb. 18, 1927, in Osceola, Indiana, the daughter of Frank and Vivian Bills Deak. She married Carl Quentin Clem on March 23, 1951, in the Osceola Brethren Church. He preceded her on Dec. 6, 1996. Mrs. Clem graduated from Jimtown High School as valedictorian of her class in 1945. She received her Bachelors Degree from Manchester College in 1949 and her Masters Degree from Indiana University. She was a teacher at Delphi, Cutler, Rossville, and Deer Creek schools and taught her last 20 years at Ervin Township in Howard County and Northwestern School Corporation. She had taught music, physical education, and math, and then third grade, her last 20 years of teaching. Mrs. Clem was a member of the Flora Grace Brethren Church and the Retired Teachers Association. She sang in a Extension Homemakers Chorus, also in several local music clubs. She enjoyed reading and was a member of the Camden Literary Club. She also enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together. Surviving are three sons, Neal Clem (wife: Carolyn) of Cutler, Kevin Clem of Delphi and Kent Clem (wife: Penny) of Lafayette; two sisters, Arloine Ernest of Osceola and Yvonne Maxson (husband: Dick) of Silver Springs, Fla.; two brothers, Frank Deak Jr. and Louis Deak, both of Osceola; and four grandchildren. One brother and one son preceded her in death. Services will be at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, at Reinke Funeral Home in Flora. Pastor Jim Franklin will officiate and burial will be at Ball Hill Cemetery in Cutler. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. |
