More than 75 years ago, Hoyte (Jew) Mann and Henry (Hank) Eaton started Mann Eaton Chevrolet in the Flora building that is now occupied by the Pizza King, Norris Insurance Agency, Lasting Impressions Spa, and Wagoner's dentist office.
At the recent Monroe Township Alumni Banquet, which honored the 1946 basketball team, Mann's daughter, Sue Mann Ayres, and Eaton's son, Jim Eaton, were together again. Eaton was there from Lincoln, Neb., as he was student manager for the '46 team.
When the business was first started, it's name, Mann Eaton Chevrolet, appeared in Ripley's Believe It or Not as a most interesting and unusual name for a business.
Ayres and Eaton said they were happy to see each other again after more than 60 years.
