Kiwanis to sponsor Touch A Fleet day

Flora Kiwanis is sponsoring an event for the second year called Touch A Fleet. This is a day for kids and parents to see and explore all kinds of trucks and equipment.

The fun and educational event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Flora Community Park. Families can get a close-up view of how the equipment works.

There is a small admission price, and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

There will be over 40 exhibitors again this year. Almost all from last year are returning as well as several new ones.

Children are allowed to climb into the vehicles and sit behind the wheel. They will learn how the vehicles are used and why they are needed.

Some of the exhibits that will be there are the Carroll County Sheriff's Department dive team and hover craft, Clinton County trash truck, National Guard, Rodkey Brothers, Sigmans Sales, Collisions Unlimited, Armstrong Drilling, County Highway Garage, Flora and State police departments, Delphi Tri-Township Smoke House and Safety Trailer, Flora Volunteer Fire Department, and the EMS ambulance.

There will be race cars, construction equipment, semi and dump trucks, school bus, and much more.

At 10:30 a.m. the PHI Air Med helicopter will land in the softball field. Spectators will be allowed to get up close, tour the helicopter, and talk to the flight crew.

Around 11 a.m. the Air Indiana Sky Diving Center will be doing a parachute jump. Those who are waiting to tour the helicopter will be able to talk to the parachute jumpers.

Another fun exhibitor to be watching for is the Delphi Trolley which will be giving rides around the park.

All proceeds will go back into the community to help kids go to camp, get scholarships, help with medical needs, bring speakers into the schools, and help send students on educational trips.

Concessions will be available at the Junior Leaders stand, and the Flora Lions ice cream trailer will also be there.
