Xenia Bridge to get color

In an effort to keep bridge projects on schedule as much as possible, Carroll County Commissioners went the extra mile Monday morning. They held a special meeting to accept a bid for painting bridge #25, the Xenia Bridge.

The sole bid from N.I. Spanos Painting, Inc. for $176,000 was accepted, although the cost exceeded the budgeted amount, $165,000, for the project.

County highway supervisor Ramzi Awwad explained that the deck inspection cost for the bridge came in at $10,000 less than budgeted, so the surplus will be used for the painting.

A contract with the engineering firm of Butler, Fairman and Seufert for an amount to not exceed $14,000 for construction observation was approved unanimously.

"As you know, I am a strong believer in inspection services," Awwad said after making the recommendation.

The next commissioners' meeting will be Sept. 5 at 9 a.m.
