Carroll County ranked 86th out of 92 Indiana counties in unemployment, with Tippecanoe County, 83rd; Clinton, 77th; White, 35th; and Cass County 19th.

The labor force in Carroll County is estimated at 12,550, with 350 estimated to be unemployed.

The Carroll Cougars and Delphi's Oracles opened up regular season action Friday night on Berto field in Delphi. Each team sought bragging rights to the third annual Carroll County Bacon Bowl, and more importantly, a key conference win.

Once again the frying pan will stay with the Cougars, as they continued last year's winningways by downing the host Oracles, 35-20.

Members and friends will gather Sunday evening at the Christian church for a fellowship meeting to honor Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Redding, home on furlough from Jamaica. Mr. Redding has been in Jamaica for the past three years building churches. He was sent to Jamaica as a builder under the auspices of the United Christian Missionary Society of the Disciples of Christ. Mrs. and Mrs. Redding will speak and show pictures of the progress being made in the reconstruction work. Many churches were damaged

by a severe hurricane which hit Jamaica a few years ago.

The Carroll county young people's picnic is expected to draw a large crowd to the local park Sunday. Every church in the county is invited to send their group for the outing.

Girls will furnish the cooperative dinner, which will be served at noon, while the boys will buy the ice cream if they desire to do so.

Following the dinner games will be played. Virgil Stinebaugh of Indianapolis will give the main talk, which should be very interesting.

Bible stories will also be dramatized by each of the four districts in the county.

The meeting will be dismissed by 5 p.m. in order so that the young people can return to their own church services in time for the evening program.

From Washington township comes a report of the largest wheat yield yet reported in northern Indiana. The wheat was raised on the farm of Mahlon Robeson where 52 1/2 bushels were threshed to the acre, 1 bushel more to the acre than the best yield yet reported in the county. Charles Harvey is a farmer on the Robeson land and challenges anybody to beat this record. The wheat in addition to being great in quantity is reported of excellent grade.
