Burlington receives grant to purchase leaf vacuum
By Shawna Dreadfulwater

The Town of Burlington reported receiving grant money from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) to purchase a leaf vacuum for the town at the Aug. 9 town council meeting. The grant does not cover the total cost so the town will apply for an additional grant from the Northwest Indiana Solid Waste Department.

Council President Dick Davis presented two quotes for cleaning service for the new town office. Donna Anderson's quote for $25 was accepted over Tonya Powell's for $40.

Council members also agreed that complaints regarding junk accumulation on properties in town should be referred to Carroll County Area Plan Commissioner Dale Huffer. Property owners having complaints about weeds should put it in writing and send it to the town office.

The council granted a property owner permission to place a food cart on their open lot on Sept. 16 during the Fall Festival.

The Council approved Milt Rodgers's request for the park board to replace the zero-turn mower. Davis suggested looking into the possibility of extending the current terms regarding trading for the John Deere tractor.

Carroll County Economic Development Corp. Director Daryl Smith introduced himself and said he is willing to assist the town on any issue they can use his help.

Budget hearing

No objections were made at the budget hearing held Aug. 15. The budget will be up for approval at the September meeting.

Special meeting A special meeting followed the

hearing concerning park matters. Park Board President Louis Mann and Park Superintendent Mike Mann discussed with the council what type of mower was needed. Following discussion, Forest Agri-Lawn will provide a 24-h.p. mower with 60-inch deck for the town to try out before purchase. The town and township will split the cost of the mower.

The council voted to extend the life of the tractor and will reevaluate later.
