Frances Draper of Burlington has been selected Senior Volunteer of the Year for Area IV Agency on Aging and Community Action Programs.
She received a framed award and $100 cash at the Indiana Conference on Aging awards reception Aug. 17 at the State Fair.
Area IV is one of 16 agency areas in the state. Awards were presented to each area's Senior Volunteer of the Year and Older Hoosier of the Year at the conference, which was held on Senior Day at the fair.
Draper was chosen for the award because of her volunteer work at the Burlington Senior Citizens Center, which is part of the Burlington Apartments complex.
A resident of the Burlington Apartments since 1997, she volunteers wherever and whenever needed. She cleans the community room where the senior citizen lunches are served, and also cleans the laundry area and office complex. She has provided lock and key service on weekends when the room is rented. She helps take care of the flowers around the building, and she helps serve the senior citizen meals.
The awards at the conference came from the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration.
Attending the conference in support of Draper were Javannah Swaim, Jack and Colleen Hinkle, Bill and Roma Ward, Ruth Hengst, Alice Harrell, Jim and Peg Miller, Don and Lois Gault, Maxine Flynn, Linda Brovont, and Henry and Cheryl Milburn.
