Library Camden This summer, Delphi, Flora and Camden public libraries have selected a great novel to put on your list of books to read. It is "Crow Lake" by Mary Lawson. The book was chosen to read in the "Carroll County on the Same Page" project, encouraging the entire Carroll County community to read the same book. There is still time to take part. Camden Library still have copies of the book available for check-out. Patrons are encouraged to stop by and see the garden at the library. The library has a new book return on the west side of the building. Delphi Public On your next visit to the library, be sure to pick up a Fall Children's Program schedule. Children's librarian Marcia Sledd has many action-packed, fun-filled programs planned for children that will help them develop a love of books. These programs also help with important parenting tools to teach your child pre-literacy skills that will help them be ready to learn to read when they get to school. Programs for babies, toddlers and preschool children begin the week of Sept. 4. School children can sign up for Library Scouts, an after-school program that teaches kids in grades one through five library skills in a fun scout format. Scouts will work toward library badges, learn a library scout promise and laws, make a craft and have a snack to help the "after-school munchies!" Lots of fun activities will help them learn how to be life-long learners and responsible library explorers. Grades one and two meet on Mondays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and children in grades three through five meet on Wednesdays at the same time. Library Scouts begins Oct. 2. Registration is required. Plans are underway for the annual library murder mystery. Over the past 10 years, these audience-participation mysteries have provided mystery, humor and an assortment of wacky characters. Audience members are invited to help solve the mystery and prizes are awarded to the individual or team who cracks the dastardly crime. This year, the library's Red Brick Theatre members will be bringing this evening of intrigue to the stage. Stay tuned for details. For information, call the library at (765) 564-2929. Flora-Monroe Township The library will be closed Saturday, Sept. 1, and Monday, Sept. 3, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Winter hours will begin on Sept. 4. School is in session and the library has many resources to help your child succeed in class: Free Internet access, word processing, spreadsheet programs, reference books, and experienced staff to help find the information needed. Children who reside in unserved library townships and attend Carroll Consolidated School Corporation can purchase a student card at a reduced rate. A parent or guardian will need to sign for the card. Find out more information at the main desk or call the library at 967-3912. GED (General Educational Development) Tests measure the outcome of a high school education. The GED Tests consist of five tests, one in each of these subjects: Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Writing Skills, and Interpreting Literature and the Arts. GED graduates include: Delaware's Governor Ruth Ann Minner, Colorado's Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell, comedian Bill Cosby, actor Christian Slater, and Wendy's founder Dave Thomas. You can do it too! GED preparation classes are now being offered in the library. Classes are Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 5-7 p.m. Simply attend a session to register.
