Travel softball tryouts

The Rockets 12U travel softball team will hold tryouts for the 2007 season on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 19 and 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Tower Park in Logansport.

Tryouts are open to players who will not be 13 years old before Jan. 1, 2007.

Homeschool Unified Sports Teams

Homeschool Unified Sports Teams of Lafayette (HUSTL) will begin registration for its 2006-07 Tippecanoe Tornados basketball and cheerleading teams during the Greater Lafayette Home Educators Association Open House, Aug. 17 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church, 5526 E. Indiana 26, Lafayette.

Registration is open to homeeducated boys and girls ages 12 through high school. The registration deadline is Sept. 15. To register after the open house, visit the HUSTL Web site at www.hustl.org.

Also at the open house, Tornados coaches will conduct free basketball, soccer, volleyball and cheerleading clinics for children ages 7 and older in the Faith Baptist gymnasium. Children should wear sneakers with nonmarking soles.

HUSTL organizes athletic programs for home-educated students in Tippecanoe and surrounding counties. The Tornados compete against other homeschool and Christian school teams from across Indiana.
