Calvary Chapel to leave DCSC facility It won't happen until January of 2007, but there is an end-date for Calvary Chapel Church to hold Sunday services in Delphi Community School Corporation's old middle school gym. DCSC board members voted to renew the rental agreement with the church in July, but not before asking Pastor Eric Haley if he was looking for other accommodations. Haley said then he was searching for a more suitable location and it now appears he found it. "We are grateful for the new location," he said in an Aug. 7 Comet interview. "We appreciate what the school corporation has allowed us in the past though." He said the vote by DCSC in July to lease the corporation facility to the church only until the end of December provided the church board time to secure a space at the Canal Interpretive Center. Haley said he contacted the center's staff a year ago about a lease, but the scheduling didn't work to their advantage. Things were different this time. "We sure appreciate the location," Haley said. The church will begin services at 10 a.m. in January, to ensure the room is available for noon-time functions. Services will last until 11:30 a.m. and other services, such as Bible studies and youth groups, will continue to meet in private homes. For church information, Haley encourages people to call him at (574) 652-4505. "We appreciate the school board allowing us to use their facility," he said. "It was never our intention to make our stay there long-term." |
