Lyons earns certification

Delphi Street Department Superintendent Aaron Lyons participated in graduation ceremonies for the first level of the Road Scholar Program today at the Indiana Street Commissioner's Conference in Lebanon.

The Road Scholar Program is presented by the Indiana Local Technical Assistance Program, (LTAP), based in the School of Civil Engineering at Purdue University.

The program consists of 12 required core courses which include: Powers & Duties of Local Highway and Street Officials; Liability and Risk Management; Highway Funding; Purchasing and Public Construction; Roadway Safety; Basics of a Good Road; Temporary Traffic Control; Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices; Bridge Basics;

Drainage; Road and Bridge Plan Reading; and Estimating Construction Costs and Quantities.

In addition to these courses each participant must earn 300 CEU credits by attending LTAP sponsored workshops, conferences and seminars. There is a minimum of a three year commitment to achieve the Road Builder level and three to five years for the Master Road Builder.
