Lemen places at state swimming championships

Katelyn Lemen, the granddaughter of Delphi residents, competed July 28-30, in the Indiana Swimming Long Course State Championships held at the Donner Aquatic Facility in Columbus. Representing Southeastern Swim Club, she qualified in 8 events in the 10 and under age group.

Lemen finished 9th in the 50 meter freestyle, 100 meter freestyle and 50 meter butterfly and 11th in the 100 meter butterfly. She also swam on the 200 meter freestyle relay team and swam backstroke for the 200 medley relay team. They captured third in both events. Overall, Southeastern Swim Club placed second, their best ever long course season finish.

On July 18, Lemen competed in the 2006 Indiana Swimming Open Water Championships at Eagle Creek Reservoir in Indianapolis. She swam the half mile course in 14:49.08 to finish ninth. As one of the top three finishers for Southeastern Swim Club 10 and under girls, she was awarded a silver medal from Indiana S5wimming for a second place relay team finish. Southeastern Swim Club placed first in the 2006 Indiana Swimming Open Water Championships.

Lemen will be a fifth grader at Sand Creek Intermediate School in Fishers. She is the daughter of Todd and Maria Lemen of Fishers, and granddaughter of Wayne and Jan Zook and Lana Lemen, all of Delphi, and Carl Lemen of West Lafayette.
