Council holds special meeting to approve three hires
By Debbie Lowe

For the second time in a little less than a month, Carroll County Council members upheld their promise to department heads to hold special meetings to discuss replacements for vacated personnel positions.

Three department heads received unanimous approval to hire for soon-to-be-vacated positions at the Thursday morning meeting.

County prosecutor Rob Ives advised one of the two secretaries in his department is leaving. He said his office files approximately 760 criminal cases and 5,100 infractions annually and needs both secretarial positions in his office to keep the workload flowing.

"We have these cases, we need these people," he said.

Historical museum director Phyllis Moore will replace the assistant curator. Moore said the position is vacant midmonth and expressed concern that personnel retention was a challenge.

"I need somebody who would really learn what I am doing," she said.

Highway department supervisor Ramzi Awwad explained a job-shift within the department left him with a vacant mechanic position.

The next regular council meeting will be Aug. 31 at 8 a.m.
