Car seat clinic
Sixty-four car seats were checked at the Carroll County Child Car Seat Clinic at the Flora Community Park on Saturday. Thirty-two were deemed unsafe and were replaced with new seats provided by Carroll County Farm Bureau Inc. Some of the reasons seats were rejected were: Second-hand, history unknown; seat had been involved in a car crash; seats were recalled; and life of the car seat had expired (six years recommended use). Other things checkers looked for were loose straps, loose in the car, and wrong car seat for the size of the child. Sharon Hartwell ofWhite/Carroll County Safe Kids said only seven seats had nothing wrong with them and were properly installed. Jim Bolen, Chief Deputy with the White County Sheriff's Dept. and a certified checker, is pictured giving instructions to Dana Crum of Frankfort. The new seat is for her son, Bricker, age 1. She also brought her son Cooper, 2, whose car seat met standards. The clinic was hosted by Carroll County Farm Bureau Inc. in cooperation with Safe Kids. Also taking part were the Carroll County Sheriff's Dept. and EMS,White County Sheriff's Dept., Flora Volunteer Fire Dept., Carroll County Healthy Families, and many volunteers.
