Nola Mae Dunbar

Nola Mae B u c h a n o n Dunbar, 69, d i e d Wed n e s d a y, July 26, 2006, at Lafayette Home Hospital after a long and c o u r a g e o u s fight with Lymphoma cancer. She had lived in the Delphi area since 1968 and wintered in North Fort Myers, Fla.

Born on July 12, 1937, in Hodgenville, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary Elizabeth "Mamie" (Beams) Buchanon. She graduated from Hodgenville, Ky., High School in 1956 and attended Lois Glenn Beauty School and graduated in 1957. She married Larry G. Dunbar and they later divorced and he preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 1987.

Mrs. Dunbar was a cosmologist in Kentucky where she did hair for free at local nursing homes. She later was a sales clerk manager at King the Clothier and sold cosmetics at Lazarus and Blocks department stores. She also sold life, health and nursing home policies and annuities for Mutual of Omaha, retiring in 1994.

She was a member of the Delphi United Methodist Church, a 40-year member of the Carroll County Country Club, and past member of the Tuesday night Lady's Golf League.

She thoroughly enjoyed being with her family and doing her hobbies.

Surviving are four sons, Carey Dunbar (wife: Patti), Greg Dunbar (wife: Kathy), and Larry "Keith" Dunbar, all of Delphi, and Paul Dunbar (wife: Linda) of Camden; three sisters Ramona "Moni" McDowell (husband: Harold) of Sonora, Ky., Myla Farris (husband: Virgil) of Mt. Washington, Ky., and Mary Howell (husband: John) of Portland; two brothers, William "Billy" Buchanon (wife: Barb) of Louisville Ky., and Frank Buchanon of Hodgenville Ky./Nashville Tenn.; and 11 grandchildren Bryan, Cory, Krysta, Alan, Kelsey, Cassandra, Blake, Brittney, and J.D. Dunbar, and Ashley and Kiersten Dirbas; and three-great-grandchildren, Lexus Scheller, Cayden Dunbar and Mason Shoemaker.

Services were held Monday at Delphi United Methodist Church with Celebrant Carla Ellis officiating. Interment followed at Rockfield Cemetery. In celebration of Nola's life a dinner was held at the Wabash & Erie Canal Interpretive Center following the graveside service.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society (Lymphoma research) or St. Elizabeth Hospice.

Hippensteel Funeral Home, Lafayette, was in charge of arrangements.
