James R. Stout

James R. Stout, 87, of Kokomo, died at 6:30 a.m. on July 28, 2006, at his residence.

Born in Kokomo on Feb. 1, 1919, he was the son of Elmer W. and Edna M. Harris Stout. He attended Kokomo schools.

His marriage was to Peggy A. McClure on June 3, 1950, in Camden, and she survives.

Mr. Stout retired in 1977 from Delco Radio GM after 27 years of service. He was among the first group of handicapped persons hired.

He served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant during World War II. He earned a Purple Heart when he was wounded while aboard the Corrigidor.

Mr. Stout was a member of American Legion Post #6; a charter member of Faith Church of Christ in Burlington, where he served as elder emeritis; and a member of UAW Local #292.

He was a drummer and enjoyed woodworking and fishing. He loved his kids and grandkids.

Surviving with his wife are five children, Jonathan Stout (wife: Jennifer) of Murrieta, Calif., Pamela Lindley (husband: Keith) of Kokomo, Susan Warner (husband: Rex) of Kokomo, Debora Wright (husband: Brian) of Russiaville, and Kimberly Yeagley (husband: Robert) of Greentown; two sisters, Jane Bowley of Grand Isle, Fla. and Betty L. Rudolph of West Palm, Fla.; a brother George Stout of Burlington; three sisters-in-law, Nina Stout of South Bend, Ruth Stout and Lois Stout, both of Kokomo; a brother-in-law, Wayne Tackett of Kokomo; nine grandchildren, Troy Lindley (fianc: Mary C. Dolivier), Matthew and Rachel Lindley, Laura and Heath Whitehurst, Stephanie Yeagley (fianc: Kevin Sanborn), Sara Yeagley, Lyndsay Wright, Aiden Stout, Alec Stout and Adler Stout; two great-grandchildren, Mikayla Whitehurst and Mackenzie Whitehurst; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, who raised him; three brothers; and a sister.

Visitation will be Saturday at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville, from 3 to 8 p.m. Service will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Steve Cole officiating. Burial will be at Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Faith Church of Christ or the Samaritan Care Givers. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
