Robert J. Pell

Robert James Pell, 59, of Flora, died at 9:20 a.m. July 31, 2006, at L a f a y e t t e Home Hospital, where he had been a patient for two weeks. He had been in ill health since April.

Born Nov. 26, 1946, in Newberry, Mich., he was the son of Earl Robert and Ruth MacDonald Pell. He graduated from Bowen High School, Chicago, Ill., in 1965.

AU.S. Army veteran, he served from 1966 to 1969 in Turkey during the Vietnam War. He served in the Air National Guard from 1985 to 1987.

On April 26, 1986, in Hammond, he married Paula Marino, and she survives.

Mr. Pell was an electrician at REAMagnet in Lafayette for over 19 years.

He was a member of the American Legion and loved to fish and do woodworking.

A resident of Flora for 11 years, he had previously resided in Delphi and Hammond.

Also surviving are two daughters, Laura Ayala (husband: Rick) of Noblesville and Christie Moran (husband: Kent) of Pendleton; one stepson, Charles Shultz (companion: Chrystal) of Lake Station; two sisters, Diane Nelson (husband: George) of Newberry, Mich., and Pamela Westerlund (husband: Ronald) of Calumet City, Ill.; one brother, Michael Pell (wife: Jo) of South Africa; four grandchildren, Samantha, Jessica, Nicola Ayala and Carter Moran; four stepgrandchildren, Charles Jr., Isaiah, Jonah and Lettie Shultz; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Pell.

Services will be held at 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, at the Flora United Methodist Church. Pastor Larry DeVos will officiate. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
