Indiana's '46 Mr. Basketball to be guest of Flora Alumni
Wilson helped lead his Anderson High School basketball team to the state title that year with a record 30 points in the championship game. 1946 was the year that the Flora High School Badgers earned a spot in the "Final Four" of the state tournament. They played in the afternoon game, losing to Fort Wayne Central. Fort Wayne lost to Wilson's team in the championship game. Wilson earned a bachelor's degree in education from Anderson University and a master's degree in education from Indiana State University. He played professional baseball with the Chicago American Giants of the Negro Baseball League in 1949. From 1949 to 1954 he played for the Harlem Globetrotters. He coached high school basketball for 10 years, compiling a 139-59 (.702) record and then spent 20 years as a coach and athletic director at Malcolm X College in Chicago, Ill., compiling a 378-135 (.737) record. Wilson was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, the Anderson Black Expo Basketball Hall of Fame, and the Anderson University Hall of Fame. He is currently a third-year volunteer assistant coach for the Lock Haven University (Pennsylvania) men's basketball team. The '46 Badger basketball team and graduating class, along with the Class of 1956, will be honored at the alumni banquet. Registration and reminiscing will begin at 4 p.m. with a group picture to be taken at 5:30. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Anyone who attended Bringhurst, Flora or Carroll high schools from Monroe Township may join the alumni association.
