Burns and Thompson are winners

Burns
Tony Burns and Tricia Thompson have won the Republican nomination for county sheriff and prosecuting attorney, respectively, in Carroll County.

Burns defeated John Chapman by a margin of 2,633 votes (77%) to 771 (23%).

Thompson defeated incumbent Rob Ives by a vote of 2,061 (62%) to 1,279 (38%).

In the State Representative District 24 Republican race, Carroll County voters narrowly chose incumbent Richard W. "Rich" McClain over Richard "Rick" Eller. The vote was 1,721 (52%) to 1,568 (48%).

At the federal level, Republican incumbent Chris Chocola won out over Tony Zirkle for U.S. Representative District 2. Carroll County votes were 2,353 (76%) to 742 (24%).

Joe Donnelly easily won in Carroll County over Steve Francis the Democratic nomination for U.S. Representative District 2. The vote was 514 (77%) to 157 (23%).

Running unopposed for county offices on the Republican ballot were Don Currie, Circuit Court judge, 2,735 votes; Beth L. Myers (incumbent), auditor, 2,868; Jane Brewington (incumbent), treasurer, 2,666; Doris L. McLeland (incumbent), assessor, 2,854; Loren T. Hylton (incumbent), commissioner District 1, 2,594.

Thompson
Republican candidates running unopposed for county council seats are: Ronald "Ron" Slavens, District 1, 517 votes; Jerry L. Hendress (incumbent), District 2, 824; Ann Brown (incumbent), District 3, 688; Nancy S. Cripe (incumbent), District 4, 717.

Running unopposed for county treasurer on the Democratic ballot was Pamela J. Mansfield, 618 votes.

A total of 4,187 registered voters (14.419%) cast ballots in Tuesday's Carroll County Primary election. Of the total, 3,446 were Republican and 719

were Democratic. Carroll County has 14,419 registered voters.

School boards

Those elected on May 2 will take office on July 1.

In the Delphi Community School Corporation, James "Jim" B. Garrison defeated Steven G. Myer for the District 1 seat by a vote of 241 (66%) to 125 (34%).

For the District 7 position, Melinda K. Rossetter defeated William Michael Penn by a vote of 290 (78%) to 80 (22%).

Running unopposed were Nicklaus H. Cronk, District 2, 405 (98%), and Jerry L. Sparks, District 3, 258 (98%).

Write-in candidate Phil Burkle defeated Diana L. Vice, for an atlarge position on the Rossville Consolidated School Corporation (RCSC) board of school trustees. The vote in Carroll County was 128 (78%) for Burkle and 37 for Vice (22%). Burkle also carried the vote in Clinton County.

Garrison
Jon Kathrens Jacoby was unopposed in RCSC Board Precinct 35. In Board District 1, Louie Coble defeated Anthony G. Deibel by a vote of 47 (56%) to 37 (44%).

In Carroll Consolidated School Corporation (CCSC) David W. Lambert, Flora, District 2, and Eric E. Johnson, Logansport, District 5, ran unopposed.

Louie Coble and Anthony G. Deibel, both of Burnettsville, sought the District 1 (includes Carroll County) position on the Twin Lakes School Corporation board of school trustees.

Township trustees

All candidates for township trustee, on both ballots, ran unopposed.

Democrats were: Alan D. Jackson, Burlington; Helen L. Schilling, Deer Creek; Clayton C. Hutson, Democrat; Robert "Bill" Dittman Jr., Jackson; James L. Tribbett, Liberty; Amanda Robinson, Madison; and Joann V. Vianco, Tippecanoe.
