Mansfield files for treasurer
Pamela J. Mansfield has recently filed for Carroll C o u n t Treasurer on t h D e m o c r a t i ballot. A

Mansfield
C a r r o l County resident most of her life, she has been treasurer of Delphi Community Middle School for 11 years.

Mansfield graduated from Delphi High School and Indiana Business College. Her family includes her husband of 37 years, Barry, three children: Jerome, of Colorado, Jill Mansfield-Busch of Brookston, Jacob of Indianapolis and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Yates of Brookston. Mansfield is a member of the First Baptist Church of Delphi.

“Carroll County has been a wonderful place to live and raise children,” she said. “I have met so many wonderful people in my church and through my employment at Delphi Middle School. I look forward to serving these same people as well as all of Carroll County as treasurer for the next four years.”

Zirkle seeks Congressional seat

Republican Tony Zirkle has announced his primary campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives, District 2.

Zirkle, a Republican, ran for the U.S. Congress and was defeated in 2004. He will continue to endorse many of the issues he raised in that campaign. Some of those issues include: new energy sources; establishing a United States Civil Service Academy; having neutral rules for drawing congressional districts; a tough approach on drug crime; continue to object to the continued rise and expansion of gambling in all its forms; make health care insurance affordable by taking the catastrophic claims, i.e. over $50,000 a year, out of the system through a universal single-payor system; legitimize judicial review, which is of questionable authority in the Constitution, by formalizing it in an amendment; and continue to support the idea that social security may be delayed until age 70 for those who do not need it.

Third House session set in Monticello

The Monticello Kiwanis Club will host a Third House Session at the Brandywine Convention Center March 4 at 9:30 a.m. Participating in the event will be Senator Brandt Hershman and Representatives Don Lehe, Eric Gutwein and Richard McClain. Senator Hershman and McClain both represent the residents of Carroll County.

Third House provides local citizens an opportunity to learn about legislation being considered during the legislative session. Attendees will be given an opportunity to ask questions about issues of interest to them.

Myer to run for school board

Steve Myer has announced his candidacy for trustee of Delphi Community School Corporation, representing District 1, Deer Creek Township Precinct 1.

Myer is a graduate of Vincennes University with degrees in surveying and architectural drafting. He is employed at Seiler Instrument.

“I am very interested in our school’s educational programs, administration and staff,” he said. “I also believe we need to maintain our current facilities in order to support our athletic programs.”

“I will work hard and base decisions on what is best for our students, staff and community. I will always be open to community input. I believe that ‘average’ is not good enough for Delphi schools. My goal is for Delphi to be above average in academics and athletics.”

Myer and his wife, Connie, are the parents of three sons, two of whom attend Hillcrest Elementary School. They attend Delphi United Methodist Church. Myer is serving his second term as president of the Delphi Youth Baseball League.

He will be contesting incumbent Jim Garrison.
