Art Huse requested sewage rates for a carwash/laundromat that he would like to open in town at last Wednesday's meeting of the Burlington Town Council.

He was told that he will have the same commercial rate as any other business at $72 per month.

Local contractor Stan Moore questioned why the town was willing to spend $8,000 to have Steve's Garage hooked into the sewer, but not on two residences that he built. He was told that Steve's Garage was a commitment from the previous administration. Clerk-treasurer Tammy Dyer explained that the plan under the previous administration was to hook into a lateral line and that was against the law, so a new line was put in.

Township Trustee Al Jackson and Junior League president Matt Jackson were present to answer questions about plans for the overhang on the park concession stand. The Council denied the Jacksons' request to look at the plans at the meeting, tabling the issue for a future meeting.

Moore questioned why the council was opposed to the overhang which was not going to cost the town any money because funding was being provided by the township and labor was being donated. Councilman Wayne Swaim said that the council was concerned that the building was still under warranty from previous improvements and of liability issues if volunteers messed up the current building.

Burlington Town Marshal Jill Hammond's report for October included several vandalized vehicles, two damaged mailboxes, 20 traffic citations, 20 headstones in the back of Burlington Cemetery knocked over with some being damaged.

Council president Dick Davis was not in attendance.

The next meeting will be Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. in the town office.
