National Honor Society induction held at DCHS

2006-11-15 / Education

The Delphi Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) inducted 24 new members during a candlelight ceremony, October 30.

Members were selected by the Faculty Council for meeting high standards of scholarship, character, leadership, and service, all criteria for selection. A slide show shown created by members Joanna Zink and Michael Carbaugh, depicted the chapter's many service projects.

"National Honor Society members are expected to continue their exemplary contributions to the school and to the community," said Linda Tyner, NHS chapter advisor. "The National Honor Society ranks as one of the oldest and most prestigious national organizations for high school students. It is not merely an honor roll for anyone who has achieved a 10.0 GPA. Membership is a privilege and DCHS teachers select those students who have outstanding character, who volunteer their time

and services to the community and school, and who show leadership both in the classroom and in extra-curricular activities. "

A reception was held immediately following the ceremony for the new initiates and their guests. National Junior Honor Society members were servers. The DCHS Entertainers, accompanied by Kevin Kayser, and Jenny Maxwell, Caitlin Pritchett, and Brenton Hathaway provided entertainment before the ceremony. The new inductees will join the

current members with the high school blood drive, teen gifts for the Delphi Christmas Basket project, and daffodil sales for the American Cancer Society, the Indiana soldiers in Afghanistan, Christmas gifts, and the other annual service projects.

This year's officers are Keltie Lake, president; Brittney Lafollette, vice president; Brittni Ballard, corresponding secretary; Rebecca Shoemaker, recording secretary; and Ann Mears, treasurer.
