Fire trucks headed to Mexico
Flora Rotary Club is participating with five other Indiana Rotary Clubs in a Rotary International Project to buy used or out-of-service fire equipment to send to Mexico. Trent Stephan, president of Flora Rotary Club, was present recently when four refurbished trucks, along with other donated firefighting equipment, left Crawfordsville for Mexico. Many areas in Mexico have little or no firefighting equipment, said Stephan. Here, fire trucks are taken out of service after 25 years of use, but are still usable, he added. A moving and storage company drives the trucks to the border, free of charge. Rotary Clubs in Mexico meet the trucks at the border and drive them to their destinations. Stephan, center, is pictured in front of one of the donated trucks, along with Claude Johnson (left) of the Crawfordsville club, fire truck committee chairman, and Bing Pratt, Rotary District Governor. A section on each truck lists the Rotary Clubs of Indiana that are involved in the project. Photos provided
