Public has its turn
The county council is to be commended for the foresight to plan a night meeting to make it easier for residents to provide input about a proposed tax abatement for The Andersons. The meeting will be Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. The location has not been determined.
Council members suffered a significant amount of criticism lately due to their lack of appropriately timed meetings, which would perhaps encourage more community involvement.
And they responded accordingly.
This is what government should look like. It might not always be comfortable and sometimes not convenient for all council members to meet at night and to invite outspoken individuals to weigh in on whatever subject is at hand. But it is, after all a government for the people and by the people.
Residents are urged to attend the upcoming night meeting. It is important that each and every citizen understand how their government works and how taxes are levied. It is not just a right you have to be informed, it is your responsibility.
