Fall Sports Summaries
For only the second time this season, Delphi's 7th and 8th grade football teams were able to sweep a doubleheader match up, this time while playing host to Klondike Thursday night at Berto Field.
The 8th graders squeaked by the Nuggets 14-12, while the Oracle 7th graders won easily, 40-0.
In the closely played 8th grade game, Delphi's Derek Bradshaw rumbled for 97 yards on 15 carries, scoring the Oracles only two touchdowns on plunges of 1 and 2 yards.
After a 6-6 tie at halftime, Dustin Salyer found Bradley Roth open in the end zone for a successful two-point conversion in the fourth quarter to account for the margin of victory.
Delphi's Dayton Rumell added 24 yards on six rushes, while Salyer completed 3-of-10 passes for 26 yards, adding 21 net rushing yards on seven carries and an interception on defense.
Roth led the receiving corps with a catch for 18 yards, while Shane Hyman (7 yards) and Bradshaw (1 yard) had a reception apiece.
The Oracles (6-2) also won the game with ball control - finishing with 179 yards of total offense on a season-high 43 plays, while limiting Klondike to 122 yards on 32 plays.
In the 7th grade game, Delphi quarterback Matt Brown had one of the best games in recent memory - rushing for 233 yards and four TDs on 11 carries, while passing for another TD - a 47-yarder to Tanner Lynde.
In addition to his touchdown catch, Lynde also rushed for 67 yards and a TD on seven carries as the Oracles (2-6) dominated from the start, leading 22-0 at the half.
Brown's TD runs were for 1, 57, 59 and 77 yards respectively, while Lynde's was for 57 yards. Both had a 2-point conversion via the rush.
Defensively, Delphi's Jarrod McCormick had two fumble recoveries and two interceptions.
Both Oracle teams are scheduled to return to the gridiron Wednesday night for their final game of the season, hosting Battle Ground at Berto Field, with the 7th graders slated to start at 5:45 pm.
