Burlington woman is honored as DAR State Regent

Cynthia Stout Scrimmage Cynthia Stout Scrimmage State Regent K. Cynthia Thompson Stout, associate member of the Charles Carroll Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, was recently honored at a reception hosted by the General James Cox Chapter of Howard County.

Harpist Kathryn Trout and flutist Kathryn Carter, Stout's daughter, entertained the attendees. Granddaughters, Cassie and Kelly Ann Carter served as hostess and guest registrar. Family, friends and members from DAR chapters throughout Indiana attended the event held at the Kokomo Country Club on Sept. 30.

The DAR National Headquarters complex occupies an entire city block near the White House in Washington D.C. It was there in July that Stout was installed as the State Regent of Indiana, the highest office of the DAR in the State.

During her three-year term the theme will be "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." Isaiah 40:30. The symbol for the administration is the eagle.

Stout and her husband, Allen L. Stout, reside near Burlington. They are the parents of three adult children, Kathryn "Kathy" Carter (husband: Jeffrey) of Burlington area, Katrina Rathbun (husband: Joel) of Potosi, Mo., and Kurtis "Kurt" Stout (wife: Heidi) of North Manchester. They also have eight grandchildren.

Stout has also held the offices of state recording secretary, state treasurer and state vice regent. Her daughters and daughter-inlaw and granddaughter, Cassie Carter, are also members of the DAR. Her grandchildren are members of the Children of the American Revolution.

The Daughters of theAmerican Revolution is a non-profit, nonpolitical, volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history and securing America's future through better education. The organization has 168,000 members in 3,000 chapters in all 50 states andWashington D.C. There are international chapters in Australia, Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan,Mexico, Spain and the United Kingdom. More than 836,000 women have joined the DAR since it was founded in 1890.

Any women 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of theAmerican Revolution is eligible for membership. Anyone interested in membership should call 765-566-3217 or kctsto@aol.com for more information.
