Bordner is individual champion

Carroll Cross Country teams competed in the Hoosier Heartland Conference meet last Thursday and came up a little short of expectations. The girls finished behind the 4th ranked Lafayette Central Catholic (LCC) Knights while the boys finished 2nd to the 9th ranked Rossville Hornets.

Individually, Ashley Bordner ran to the individual championship by out running Deboy from LCC by 5 seconds, finishing in 16:45 over the 4000 meter course. That performance earned Bordner all-conference honors.

Kyle Wallace and Sam Scharer led the boys to their second place finish, earning all-conference honors by placing 4th and 6th, respectively. "The girls ran in a pack. Unfortunately the pack was not fast enough for a good LCC team," stated Coach Mike Miller.

"The boys ran really well, it just wasn't enough to keep the Hornets from finishing first.

Carroll runners finished as follows:

GIRLS - Ashley Bordner 1, Kaitlin Kennedy 12, Hope Hayden 13, Courtney Rinehart 14, Lauren Wilkinson 17, Abby Reinke 18, Amber Hughes 26, Emily Schneckloth 32, and Megan Ayres 34.

BOYS - Kyle Wallace 4, Sam Scharer 6, Tyler Macy 11, Weston Rinehart 17, Sean Smith 20, Andrew Miller 21, Clinton Miller 22, Brad Benson 23, Seth Larimore 28, Nick Jones 29, Mitchell Cottrell 31, Jared Collins 44, and Jason Hazel DNR (sick).
