Reed ready for statewide 'Listening Tour'

Superintendent of Public Instruction Suellen Reed is inviting Hoosiers to join her during an upcoming statewide "Listening Tour" of Indiana's school communities. Dr. Reed will visit schools across the state to meet with students, parents, educators, business and community leaders to gather feedback on Full-Day Kindergarten (FDK) and other education issues expected to arise in the 2007 General Assembly.

Reed and Gov. Mitch Daniels have agreed to make FDK a top, joint legislative priority in 2007. Daniels and lawmakers have voiced interest in joining Reed as she travels the state.

"This is a great opportunity to talk with people around the state about important issues in our educational system," Reed said. "There is a lot to be learned when we open our ears and really listen to what Hoosiers have to say."

Reed will visit every region during her statewide tour, which is sure to include visits with students at the elementary, middle and high school levels. Area business and education leaders in each community will join Reed in hosting an evening town hall meeting with parents, teachers, students and community leaders.

In this area, she will be in Lafayete on Dec. 5 and in Kokomo on Dec. 11.

More specific itineraries will be announced prior to each community visit.
