Photo provided At the Carroll County 4-H Achievement Night, special recognition was given to mini 4- H'ers and first-year members.

The 2006 Achievement Award winners were selected based on the following criteria: completing at least three years in their project area, showing improvement or maintaining a high level of accomplishment, participating in demonstrations or assisting with workshops. The 4-H'ers receiving achievement awards were:

Eleven 4-H clubs received a Helping Hands Helping Hometowns certificate for their Citizenship/Community Service Projects. They were:

BURLINGTON WILDCATS: Planted flowers at the Community Building. Donated the rest of their garage sale items to the Rescue Mission.

CARROLTON CLOVERS: Placed Veteran's Flags at two local cemeteries prior to Memorial Day. Collected items to be donated to Carroll County Homemakers Club, joint 4-H and FFA School Supplies.

CLAY BOOSTERS: Planted approximately 10 flats of flowers in various places around the Indiana Veterans Home for the residents to enjoy.

DEER CREEK DELPHINIUMS: Celebrated Christmas all year, creating Christmas ornaments to donate to the Christmas Basket project. They collected items to donate to the project. The 4-Hers maintained the two adopt-a-spots. Rounding out the service projects was Bingo nights at Carroll Manor.

JACKSON LIVEWIRES: Planted flowers for the Town of Camden and in the flower beds for the residents of the Senior Citizen complex in Camden.

JEFFERSON GO GETTERS: Went shopping for the local food pantry. Purchased non-perishable items and donated them to the food pantry as well as gave a monetary donation.

MADISON MAGNIFICETS: Assisted with the set up of the arena for the Little Miss and Mister and Queen Contests. Members carried concrete blocks and boards for bleachers and helped set up chairs for parents and past queens. Once the work in the arena was finished, there

was still work to do around the fairgrounds so some members helped hang fire extinguishers and replace light bulbs in the barns.

MONORE ACHIEVERS: Planted flowers at the Senior Citizens apartments and helped with Relay for Life, filling and placing the luminaries around the track and on the bleachers.

ROCK CREEK RENEGADES: Collected canned goods for the food pantry. Club members planted flowers in pots for Rockfield Community.

TIPPECANOE TRIUMPHS: Placed flags on Veterans graves for Memorial Day. Made Valentines for residents of St. Elizabeth nursing home & visited with residents.

YOUNG WRANGLERS: Raised $684 for St. Jude's. Eight 4-Her's participated in the event. Melanie Johns was our top collection with $200. The goal is to raise $3,000 for next year.

Shannon Kremer and Hannah Mears received the Key Club award which honors Junior Leaders who have been active in their local club and in various county activities. In addition to leadership activities, these 4-H'ers have also been active in presenting demonstrations and/or participating on judging teams. Each year, youth in their junior year who have shown outstanding leadership are selected to receive the I Dare You Award. The Carroll County 4-H Awards Committee selected Scott Guckien and Lillian Newbury as the recipients. They received the book "I Dare You."

The program consisted of eight 4-H'ers highlighting their summer 4-H trips. They were: Brooke Beale - 4-H Camp; Malena Zook - Computer Science; Kurtis Robeson - Electric Workshop; Grace Mears - 4-H Round-Up; Adam Bonner - State 4-H Chorus; Lillian Newbury - Junior Leader Conference; Nolan Mellinger - State Fair Youth Leadership School; Ashley Randle - National 4-H Congress. These 4- H'ers emphasized that the various trips provided opportunities for fun, to meet 4-H'ers from throughout the state, learn more about projects and learn more about leadership.
