Burlington Extension Homemakers Associate Club met recently with seven members attending. Margaret Mabbitt was hostess.

Susie Neher was guest speaker. She told about quilts that were stared in 3400 B.C. in Egypt. She said quilts were made as a diary of each person. Batting was put in quilt in 1846. Until 1936, colors were only gray, blue or black. For a time, quilting went out of favor and then in the 1970s it became popular again. Do not put quilts in direct light, do not store them in plastic, do not have them in direct contact with wood or cedar. To store a quilt, wrap it in a sheet.

United Methodist Women met recently. Domestic violence was discussed and where to get help. Members also talked about making noodles, mincemeat and the annual bake sale. The event will be Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Noodle making days were set for Oct. 2, 16 and 23. Mincemeat making day will be Oct. 26. All work days will begin at 9 a.m.

Marian Eller and Cheryl Milburn attended the Lafayette District UMW 14th annual meeting at Remington on Saturday.

Community Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Burlington Park.

Kiwanis Club took some kids to the park Saturday for a work day. Kiwanis Club meets Saturday mornings at 7:30 at the fire station for breakfast and meeting.

Donut Sunday will be observed Oct. 2 at the Church of Christ.

Today, Sept. 27, is the last day to donate items for the Kentucky Mountain Mission.

Choir practice for the United Methodist Christmas cantata, "A World of Christmas," will be held tonight,Wednesday, at 7:30.

The United Methodist Charge Conference will be held Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Hopewell church. Dinner will be at 5 with the meeting afterwards.

Faith Church of Christ youth group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Youth activities for kindergarten through fifth graders and a hayride will be held Saturday at 5 p.m. at Scott and Michelle Wagoner's home. Food will be provided. Parents are welcome to attend.

Holy Communion/Love Feast will be observed Sunday at the First Brethren Church.

WMS will meet Oct. 5 at the church.
