CARROLL COUNTY HISTORICAL MUSEUM

Curator Phyllis Moore went to the Indiana State Historical Society for a dinner honoring the State of Indiana County Historians. While there, she met a woman who remembered a widow who was an elementary teacher in Delphi many years ago, and who had a daughter. Phyllis listened, but could not recollect the name of the teacher or the daughter. On the way home, she was still pondering the name. Phyllis finally remembered the teacher's name - Irene Mason - because her daughter, Marcia Mason Andrew emailed us wanting to make a change on her newsletter address. Very spooky!

The museum purchased Past Perfect software specifically designed to help museums catalog their collections. We are looking for volunteers who are interested in helping with this project by researching, organizing, writing descriptions, taking digital photos and entering data. This is a terrific way to learn more about the museum's collections. Choose an area that interests you, such as antique glassware, firearms, clothing, houseware or any of the other fascinating collections within the museum and help catalog those areas.

Once the collections are cataloged, we will be able to create "virtual exhibits" which can be accessed online. With these detailed photo exhibits, teachers, researchers, students, or people who are just plain curious will be able to view exhibits on the Internet. This is a wonderful way for those outside of Carroll County to learn about our rich heritage and pioneer life in Indiana.

There are also numerous projects for volunteers to work on at home. Some involve preparing index cards for historic documents and files; other projects involve entering records into computer files. The work is interesting and of great value to the museum and all our users throughout the country.

The annual dinner for Carroll County Historical Society will be Oct. 12 at 6:30 p.m. The Making of Legacy I and II will be the topic, and the speakers will be Bonnie Maxwell and Anita Werling. Call the museum for details and reservations at (765) 564-3152.
