The library is pleased to announce that a national award given to the Beta Alpha Chapter, Psi Iota Xi, is being displayed on the lower level of the library close to where the group meets. The framed artwork was given to the chapter at its national convention. The rotating award is for the most money donated per chapter, per capita to all cultural projects. This beautiful piece of art chosen by the Hoosier Art Salon will be on exhibit in the Flora Library for one year.
Thousands of libraries and bookstores nationwide will celebrate the freedom to read during Banned Books Week, celebrated through Saturday. They will support the occasion with displays of books that have been banned or threatened throughout history. Observed since 1982, the annual event is a celebration of the freedom to read and reminds Americans not to take this precious freedom for granted.
During this week the library will have books on display that have been challenged or banned over the years. Patrons are invited to choose to check out any of these books, reminding themselves that they have this freedom of choice.
The theme of the next storytime is "Libros en Espanol." Learn some basic Spanish works as we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month. Storytime is Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m.
