Brown ANN BROWN, Carroll County Council member, was one of about 400 county officials and county employees who attended the Association of I n d i a n a Counties' (AIC) 48th Annual Conference held September 1821 in St. Joseph County (South Bend).
Conference attendees and DIPLOMA Program graduates heard from keynote speaker Governor Mitch Daniels, who spoke about changes made during the last couple of years and his goals for the future.
Brown, who has previously earned a DIPLOMA Certificate, was presented with a Continuing Education Certification I certificate for completing an addition 20 credit hours within one calendar year. She also received a Silver Masters Pin that requires a total of 75 credit hours of continuing education. The DIPLOMA Masters Program is offered for those who have made education in county government a priority.
The AIC's annual conference, the largest gathering of county officials in the state, included meetings designed specifically for each elected county office.
STEVEN ASHBY, Carroll County Council, has recently earned certification from the AIC
County DIPLOMA. Program. The AIC (Association of Indiana Association of Indiana C o u n t i e s ) established the program in 1993 to allow officials and county employees access to training geared specifically to county government, and all courses offered are relative to the operation of county government. A graduate must accrue 30 credit hours of study within two consecutive years to qualify. Ashby completed core courses in the fields of budgets and finance, human resources management, leadership development, managing and governing legally and ethically and public speaking.
Ashby J.R. Malott has opened J.R. REPAIRS in the former Signs of Flora building at 702 W. Columbia St., Flora.
Malott's services include small to large engine repairs, welding, restoration of old and new farm equipment and automobiles, and auto detailing. He said he especially loves to do restoration work.
Malott grew up on a dairy farm in northern Indiana. He spent six years in the military and has 28 years of experience in heavy equipment repair (Case, Cat, Oliver and Allis).
J.R. Repairs is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday. Free estimates are given.

KATHY SHANK and CAROLE MILLER were recognized for 35 years of state employment at the governor's Long Term Employee reception onAug. 24 in Indianapolis.
Shank began her career on Dec. 1, 1971 as a caseworker with the Carroll County Department of Public Welfare. The agency has become state controlled, and Shank's position is currently a Family Case Manager with the Department of Child Services.
Miller began her career in April of 1971 as a caseworker for the Carroll County Department of Public Welfare, where she later served as county director for nine years. She is currently employed as a social worker at Logansport State Hospital.
JOYCE STURDIVANT is the new assistant curator at Carroll C o u n t y H i s t o r i c a l S o c i e t y Museum. An avid genealogical r e s e a r c h e r , Sturdivant will help the patrons of the museum find g e n e a l o g y records. She will also maintain records, set up and maintain displays, receive donations and identify them, maintain a catalog of all that is available at the museum, and write grants.
Sturdivant and her husband, John, reside in Camden and have four sons and three grandchildren.
KATHY SHANK of Delphi has opened a shop at 114 E. Main Street in Delphi. The shop, called "Seasons," features floral arrangements, wreaths and cemetery memorials. She also creates custom designs.
Seasons will team up with nextdoor neighbor, Shades of Brown, for an Autumn Splendor Open House Sept. 29 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sept. 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All florals and arrangements will be 25 percent off; all tanning lotionwill be 25 percent off. Shades of Brown will offer two free tans with the purchase of lotion.
Arnett HealthSystem has reached an agreement to sell its insurance division, Arnett Health Plans, to UNITED HEALTHCARE. Additionally, Arnett Physician Group and the newly built Arnett Surgery Center have both entered into a long-term provider agreement with United Healthcare. These transactions will further the efforts of both companies to make a broader range of health care services more affordable and accessible for the people of North Central Indiana.
