Velma R. Davis
Velma R. Davis, 82, of Deerfield Beach, Fla., who died Dec. 8, 2005, is coming home to Indiana for the last time.
Mrs. Davis was born in Tippecanoe County on June 8, 1923; she was the daughter of Noah C. and Bernice A. Lefler Scowden.
She was the wife of the late Ernest L. Davis. Mrs. Davis was a homemaker and very much loved and enjoyed her family and home.
She liked playing cards with her brothers and sisters and sharing a wealth of memories with them every summer on her long visits home. She also liked traveling, spending time with her children and grandchildren, making fishing lures, listening to country and gospel music, people watching and reading.
She leaves behind three loving children, Duke Davis (wife: Lisa) of Delphi, Lana Weaver of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Cheri Marshall (husband: Jeff) of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; three stepchildren, Phyllis Moore (husband: Don) and Jim Davis (wife: June), both of Delphi, and Dick Davis (wife: Wilma) of Buck Creek; six beloved grandchildren, Kim Raines (husband: John) and Chad Davis, both of Lafayette, Kendra Battle (husband: Brad) of King, N.C., Lauren DiMartino of Deerfield Beach, Kyle Davis of Delphi and Hillary Marshall of Deerfield Beach. She will be missed by four great-grandchildren, Ronald, Mathew, Shantel, and Cheyenne.
Mrs. Davis was cherished by ten brothers and sisters; those who preceded her in death are June Gaumer, Chet Scowden, Kenneth "Pete" Scowden, and Charles "Chod" Scowden; and those who survive are Irma Sprunger and Katherine "Kit" Rehwald, both of Florida, Dorothy McCormick of Delphi, and Helen Michael of Logansport.
Also surviving are two brothers, Robert "Bob" Scowden and Richard "Rick" Scowden, both of Delphi; a sister-in-law, Judy Scowden; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was adored by her family and will be truly missed.
A service celebrating her life, her homecoming to Indiana, and her true homecoming to Heaven will be held July 8, 2006, at Davidson Funeral Home in Delphi, at 10 a.m., with Pastor Brent Oliver officiating. Friends and relatives will be received from 9:30 to 10 a.m., with the celebration service at 10 a.m.
