Services for Leona M. Carter, 89, formerly of the Cutler and Burlington area, were held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Burlington United Methodist Church. Pastor Chuck Rockey officiated and burial was at Ball Hill Cemetery near Cutler.

She died at 12:55 p.m. June 20, 2006, at St. Vincent Hospice, Indianapolis.

Born Dec. 22, 1916, in Carroll County, she was the daughter of Walter and Blanch Brookie Bowen. She married Cleon Carter on April 18, 1936, in Fort Wayne. He preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 1978.

Mrs. Carter was a lifelong resident of the Cutler and Burlington area. She graduated from Cutler High School in 1934 and attended Fort Wayne Business College for one year.

She was a member of the Burlington United Methodist Church and the Carroll County Historical Society.

Mrs. Carter enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting and reading.

Surviving are 13 children, Meredith Carter (wife: Nellie) of Indianapolis, Martha Grant (husband: Rex) of Warsaw, Myra Roydhouse (husband: Ken) of Dade City, Fla., Myron Carter (wife: Marilyn) of Orlando, Fla., Marilyn Wade (husband: Bob) of Danville, Madonna Patrick (husband: Dwight) of Danville, James Carter (wife: Judy) of Brighton, Mich., Jerry Carter (wife: Wanda) of Zionsville, Janet Kniesly (husband: Bill) of Belleville, Ill., JoAnn Oglageo (husband: Michael) of Deltona, Fla., Jon Carter (wife: Francine) of Avon, Jill Aydelotte (husband: Scott) of Apopka, Fla., and Jeff Carter (wife: Kathy) of Frankfort.

Also surviving are 32 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

A son, Max Dean Carter, preceded her in death.

Memorials may be made to St. Vincent Hospice, Indianapolis.

Neptune Funeral Home, Burlington, was in charge of arrangements.
